I just taught a lesson on hymnsoft this last Wednesday at MLC for EFE
week (and I found out that contrary to popular belief, 8th graders can
indeed sing when they want to). While it is old, the player module is
pretty versatile. You can change the speed at which the program plays
back the hymns (tempo) and the duration of pauses between verses. While
it can't speed up or slow down in the middle, I have found that as long
as the congregation can hear it well enough, it works ok. The biggest
hangup for me is the sound quality of midi. I have fixed this by using a
VSTi library called Garritan Personal Orchestra. It contains some pretty
nice pipe organ samples and a great piano. Last I heard, Garritan was
also working on a pipe organ library with several different types of organs.
