Donate them to schools/charities? ;)
You may want to call your local city/town hall and see if there are regularly scheduled pick-up/drop-off times/locations. A major concern is the lead used in circuit boards until about 3-4 years ago (lead was used to prevent what are called "tin whiskers"). Since you live in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, Milwaukee PC disposed of my dead laptop once they retrieved the hard drive and encased it as an external hard drive.
Check this EPA site for more info:
http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/conserve/materials/ecycling/index.htm
Another site:
http://www.electronicsrecycling.org/Public/default.aspx
And still another:
http://www.eiae.org/
Failing that, google "electronic recycling." (Gee, I wish I'd have thought of that!)

Hello WELS Techies,
How do y'all dispose of old computer equipment? I hate to throw stuff in the landfill and the storage rooms can only hold so much. How do you get rid of things like computers, monitors, various cards, cables, toner cartridges, etc?
Thanks,
Ken Becker
