We use a number of programs from Ellsworth Publishing. It's done online with the students using books to type from. I use the programs in 2-8th grade. Their website is http://www.ellsworthpublishing.com . My 8th graders are required to type a minimum of 40 wpm. Most exceed that.
In the lower grades we use the Keyboarding for Kids program and the upper grades use the Skillbuilding Mastery program. As a subscriber you also have access to two other programs at know extra cost. One introduces them to Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint. I make a lot of use out of the Excel and Access sections. The junior high students use the skills in their science presentations each year.
The other program we use from Ellsworth is Nuts 'N' Bolts Formatting. This also comes at no extra charge. It is works well for teaching Word formatting skills which they use in typing research papers, letters, and reports.

In Sleepy Eye we are evaluating keyboarding alternatives for next school year. For those involved in teaching keyboarding at the LES level, what software/internet resources do you use and what speed and accuracy standards do you hold your students to? Are there high school folks who could share what the expectations are for incoming freshmen in terms of typing speed and accuracy?
Thanks in advance for sharing!

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
