Nomination Alert for: WELS Investment Funds, Inc., Board Member


There will be a vacancy on the WELS Investment Funds, Inc., Board as of July 1,
2006. The Synodical Council is seeking names of nominees to serve on this board.


Position description:

Board qualifications and duties

Authority and responsibility

The board of directors is the legal authority for the WELS Investment Funds,
Inc. (WIF) consisting of not less than seven or more than 13 members. As a
member of the board, director acts in a position of trust in providing and
managing investment portfolios for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod
(WELS) and charitable entities affiliated with WELS. Collectively, members are
responsible for the effective governance of WIF which serves as administrator of
the WELS Funds. No compensation shall be paid to members; however, members are
entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred on behalf of WIF.



Essential position qualifications

--Be an active male member in good standing in a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran
Synod (WELS) or Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) congregation.

--Be faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions

--Be supportive of the synod’s Constitution, Bylaws, and policies.

--Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration or in fields
related to management and/or corporate compliance or have at least 10 years
experience in line and staff positions in corporate or organizational
management.

--Be knowledgeable of the operation and structure of the synod.

--Have demonstrated experience in administration combined with the ability to
delegate responsibilities.

--Commitment to the work of WIF.

--Knowledgeable and skilled in one or more areas of board governance and
management: economics, investment management, accounting, risk management,
legal, marketing or financial planning, etc.

--Be willing to embrace WIF's mission of leadership in the synod.

--Have a reputation within his profession and the WELS community that would
serve to enhance the image of WIF.

--Be able to attend quarterly board meetings.

--Must prepare for and participate in board teleconferences.

--Willingness and capacity to serve at the discretion of the WELS Synodical
Council for a minimum of one three-year term (four consecutive terms maximum).



Duties:

General

Regularly prepare for and attend scheduled board meeting and participate in
conference calls to review/approve investment reports, audit reports, and annual
offering circular.  Other business is conducted as needed through e-mails or
electronic media. Special meetings may be called as needed.



Organizational

--Monitors, advises, supports, and, when necessary, recommends to Synodical
Council changes in management of WELS Investment Funds.

--Assures that management succession is properly provided.

--Assures that the status of organizational strength and manpower planning is
equal to the requirements of the long-range goals.

--Annually review the performance of the board and take steps to improve its
performance.



Operational

--Develop and monitor investment strategies and results solely in the interest
of the investors.

--Select the investment consultant and such other investment managers,
consultants and investment professionals deemed appropriate to execute and
monitor investment policies.

--Review the results achieved by investment managers and investment consultants.

--Reviews the results achieved by management as compared with established goals.

--Review risk management plans.

--Review and approve annual offering circular.

--Provides candid and constructive criticism, advice, and comments.

--Approves major actions of the WELS Investment Funds such as capital
expenditures and major offering and service changes.



Audit

--Assures that the board is adequately and currently informed--through reports
and other methods--of the condition of the WELS Investment Funds, Inc.

--Assures that published reports properly reflect the operational results and
financial condition of WELS Investment Funds, Inc.

--Determines that management has established appropriate policies to define and
identify conflicts of interest and is diligently administering and enforcing
those policies.

--Appoints independent auditors in consultation with the WELS Accounting
Oversight Committee.

--Reviews compliance with relevant material laws affecting the WELS investment
Funds and its operations.



Other:

Board members are encouraged to represent WELS Investment Funds within their
geographical area, assisting in the growth and thereby the efficiencies of the
WELS Funds, for the benefit of all investors and his Kingdom.



Occasionally a member will be asked to provide additional service based on his
profession and unique God given skills and abilities.



Reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.





All pastors, professors, male teachers, congregations, and voting members of
congregations are invited to nominate qualified individuals.

At its meeting the week of Feb. 24, 2006, the Synodical Council will elect the
board and commission members from the slate of candidates who have consented to
serve.
