Nomination Alert for: WELS Director of Christian Giving

Who may nominate men for this office?

Section 5.60.d, Administrators of the Constitution of the Wisconsin Evangelical
Lutheran Synod says:

“Administrators of the synod shall be called in the following manner.  Notice of
a vacancy shall be published on the official Internet site of WELS and/or to
congregations by mail, and all pastors, professors, male teachers,
congregations, and voting members of congregations shall be invited to nominate
candidates within 20 days from the date of publication.  The list of candidates
shall be published on the official Internet site of WELS and/or to congregations
by mail, and the calling board shall call from the published list no earlier
than 30 days from the date of publication.”

Nominations for this position must be received by Pastor Larry Cross, chairman
of the Funding Committee of the Conference of Presidents, between November 17
and December 7, 2004.  Preferably, please nominate via email at
Mndpwels at aol.com.  Nominations may also be sent to Pastor Cross’s office at 4520
19th Avenue NW, Rochester, MN 55901.

The list of names will be published on the internet on December 8, 2004

The issuing of the call will take place during the January 8-14, 2005 meeting of
the Conference of Presidents.

Description of Director of Christian Giving


Purpose
The Director of Christian giving is called by Christ through his church to
provide key leadership, under God’s hand of blessing and according to biblical
principles, in gathering the true first fruit offerings from the members of the
Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) which will enable the WELS to carry
out an ever richer ministry of reaching more and more people with the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
 	``
The director is to assist the Conference of Presidents (COP) in its
constitutional responsibilities to oversee all the Christian giving initiatives
of the synod.  He is to provide pastoral direction, leadership, support and
supervision for all Commission on Communication for Financial Support/Planned
Giving staff and programs.

Responsibilities
1.	Develop and administer the programs that carry out the resolutions and
directives with respect to funding adopted by the synod in convention, the COP
and CCFS.
2.	Research, plan and propose strategies for synodical funding to the CCFS, the
COP, the Mission Operations Team (MOT) and the Synodical Council (SC).
3.	Lead and support the twelve district CCFS chairmen and through them their
district commissions and WELS representatives in synod congregations.
4.	Be responsible through the Director of Planned Giving for the performance of
the gift planning staff.
5.	Supervise, lead and support the CCFS office staff.
6.	Represent the needs and interests of planned giving on the WELS Foundation
Board.
7.	Report to the COP, the CCFS, the MOT, the SC, and to pastors and congregations.
8.	Develop and monitor budgets for all units within CCFS/PG.

Knowledge and Experience
1.	Be exceptionally well grounded in biblical stewardship principles and their
applications in today’s church
2.	Be or become thoroughly versed in synodical planning, programs, initiatives,
etc.
3.	Have or acquire a good working knowledge of charitable tax issues, planned
giving instruments, etc.
4.	The man chosen for this office needs to be theologically trained with broad
experience as a pastor.

1.	Creative
a.	To interpret and apply the biblical stewardship message in ways that are
meaningful to today’s Christians.
b.	To coordinate the development of biblically sound and attractive materials
for Christian giving.
c.	To communicate effectively in large, small, group, as well as one-on-one
settings.
d.	To mold a staff of intelligent, skilled and independent counselors into a
harmonious, supporting team.
e.	To provide vision and effective leadership to district chairmen.
f.	Develop and maintain mutually respectful relations with parish pastors and
lay leaders.

2.	Analytical
a.	To evaluate personnel and enable them to live up to their potential as
servants of the Lord.
b.	To analyze giving trends and effectiveness of programs.
c.	To understand the challenges of Christian ministry in our culture.
d.	To develop strategies, policies, goals, objectives, programs, etc..
e.	To understand the various instruments of planned giving.
f.	To understand the basics of charitable tax laws.
g.	To analyze, develop and monitor budgets.

Travel
	The position requires extensive travel ranging from 80-100 days per year.
