Homeschooling Family Network (Open Forum) Dear Home Schooling Friend, HomeNet is a communication tool provided by the WELS Commission on Parish Schools to assist homeschooling families in networking with and supporting one another. We are pleased to know this service assists families who make the noble and prayerful choice to educate their children at home. We welcome your participation. The comments and discussions posted to HomeNet are to be nurturing, supportive, and encouraging. Please understand that topics may arise from time to time that stir your passions. We ask that your posts demonstrate respect for other homeschooling parents who may for various reasons hold to views that differ from your own. A good practice to keep in mind when you are developing a post that stirs your personal passions is to draft it offline, save it, and reread it the next day before posting. Are your comments in line with the purpose of the listserve? Do they demonstrate respect for others? Do they build the body of Christ? Your answers will help you improve your post or will keep you from posting something that you later regret. It’s natural for doctrinal questions to arise as you wrestle with the responsibility of teaching your children God’s Word. We welcome and encourage you to seek advice and to learn from one another how to effectively teach God’s Word in your homes. Please understand, however, when it comes to resolving your inner wrestling with a doctrinal matter, this listserve is really not a very effective tool. Dig deeply into the Scriptures and seek the advice and counsel of your pastor. Gather together with members of your church and study God’s Word. Let the Spirit speak to you through Word and Sacraments. Pray the Lord would use all of these tools to more fully reveal his will to you. And when you post your comments, be charitable to others and take care to avoid “bashing” perspectives that may not mesh with your current understanding. We count it a privilege to support families that have chosen to educate their children at home. Please help us to maintain HomeNet as a friendly, positive environment where we can encourage one another and build up the body of Christ.
